Do you know what is LiFi?
Introduction-:
Hello friends, in this context I am going to tell you about
a new type of network which is recently launched. This network is not known at
present by many people ,so I like to tell you about this network in this blog.
So lets start-:
The name of that new network is "LI-FI."
OK ,I am going to tell you about that briefly.
Imagine
a world where every light could connect you to internet.
Lights that illuminate our offices, homes,
cars and our streets also connecting us to data and powering our growing demand
for connectivity.
what is li-fi ?
The term Li-Fi stands for "Light
Fidility." It is believed to be the next generation of internet , where light will be used as a medium to transport data.
Yes you read it right , the light used
in our homes and offices will be used to transport data.
"The term LiFi was coined
by pureLiFi's CSO, Professor Harald
Hass, at a Ted Global Talk back in 2011 where he demonstrated LiFi for the
first time."
Is it even possible? How does LiFi work ?Could it be expected in near future? The
answer to all these questions will be found in the given blog.
The technology of using an RF medium
for transferring data suffers from a lot of drawbacks like-:
Ø There is too demand for the internet that could not met by the
current method , which leads to the effect called Spectrum crunch.
Ø Radio Frequency is not safe, since your data can escape through
walls and cannot be contained within a particular area.
All these drawbacks calls for a new
technology , this new technology is called LiFi lets understand how it
works?
working of li-fi-:
LiFi can work indoors, outdoors with the light dimmed.
The LiFi is not only simple but
powerful also. When a constant current is applied to LED bulbs , to an LED
light bulb , a constant stream of photons are emitted from bulb . LED bulbs are
semiconductor devices , which means the current ,therefore the illumination can
be modulated at high speeds.
Comparison b/w radio
frequency and li-fi-:
Radio frequency communication requires
radio circuits , antennas and complex
recievers , whereas LiFi is much simpler and uses direct modulation
methods similar to those used in low cost infrared communication devices like
remote control units.
LED bulbs have high data intensities
and therefore can achieve very large data rates.
The applications for LiFi are
limitless. Anywhere there is an LED light there can be data.
Today there are real life applications and benefits for implementing LiFi
.
Ø
LiFi have
higher speed than WiFi .
Ø
10000 times the frequency
spectrum than radio.
Ø
More secure because data
cannot be intercepted without a clear
line of sight.
Ø
Unrestricted by radio
interference.
Building your
own li-fi-:
Hope this blog helped you to
understand what is LiFi and how
revolutionary it will be. Now let
us know how to build a mini LiFi on our own to transmit audio signal
from one end to another.
People have already done it so it would not be a complicated process.
We just need an Encoder and Decoder part to transmit and recieve signal through light.
On the reciever side we can use transistors to make a LED light flicker
for the input audio signal. The flickering will not be visible to naked eyes
since the frequency is high , but when we use a solar panel and analyse its
output DC voltage through a scope
we will be able to find a patterned variation.
This variation is nothing but the audio signal.
Simply use an amplifier circuit and a speaker on the output side and you will be able to
recieve and play the transmitted audio signal.
